Drugs 4Registry Identification Cards – Keep Your Information Current

It is exceedingly important that you understand the responsibilities of carrying a registry identification card if you have been prescribed medical marijuana. Not knowing these responsibilities could result in an arrest due to carrying a card deemed invalid by state regulations.

On your identification card you will find the following:

  • Your name, address, and date of birth
  • The card’s expiration date
  • Your photo
  • Possibly other information that the state may feel is necessary

It’s important to know this because if you are carrying or using medical marijuana with an identification registration card that does not have the correct information on it, then you may be subject to arrest. For instance, if you move and have a different address but don’t notify the state to receive an updated card, then you could be technically possessing marijuana illegally.  In addition, the state only gives you 10 days to notify them of a change from the day it occurred.  Below is the portion of the CUMMA Act that discusses the importance of keeping the information on your registration identification card up to date:

d. A registry identification card shall contain the following information:

(1) the name, address and date of birth of the patient and primary caregiver, if applicable;

(2) the expiration date of the registry identification card;

(3) photo identification of the cardholder; and

(4)such other information that the department may specify by regulation.

e. (1) A patient who has been issued a registry identification card shall notify the department of any change    in the patient’s name, address, or physician or change in status of the patient’s debilitating medical condition, within 10 days of such change, or the registry identification card shall be deemed null and void.

(2) A primary caregiver who has been issued a registry identification card shall notify the department of any change in the caregiver’ s name or address within 10 days of such change, or the registry identification card shall be deemed null and void.

I called Mr. Sisto a few weeks back and he returned the call immediately! I asked a few questions and he clearly explained the options for one of my employees. He then followed up with a detailed proposal. He was completely knowledgeable, helpful and insightful. If I ever had to use him I would feel VERY comfortable with his representation.
